Questions You May Have . . .
What is Life Coaching?
Life Coaching offers support and guidance in helping you to identify a vision for a brighter future. Together, we explore your hopes and dreams. We celebrate your unique combination of personal strengths and life skills, which you may often take for granted. In the process, we may rediscover long forgotten talents and aspirations that can spark new ideas for a more fulfilling way of living your life.
How is Life Coaching different from traditional psychotherapy?
Whereas traditional counseling and psychotherapy tend to focus on healing the past, Life Coaching is primarily now and future-oriented. We work together to fully un derstand who you are and where does s/he want to be. Then we create a plan for getting there. If personal blocks arise that are rooted in your past, we address them and work through them. But we don’t go looking for them. It is only when they show up trying to sabotage your future that we revisit your past.
What does Holistic mean?
While traditional counseling is primarily talk therapy, taking a Holistic approach offers many unique ways to help you to tap thoughts, feelings and ideas that may be hiding behind your words. Guided imagery, role playing, art, movement, interpreting symbols, and discovering the many aspects of who you are in everyday life, provide inspiration and new ways of seeing yourself.
How do I start? What are the fees? How often and how long are the sessions?
We start with an initial meeting during which we will discuss your needs and determine if we are a “good fit.” Fees are on a sliding scale, and they are based upon what you can afford to pay on a regular basis. We begin our work together with a commitment to four weeks, meeting for a one-hour session each week. At the fourth session, we will assess if we should continue. If yes, we will set up a regular meeting schedule. |

"From my own experience, I can assure you that
it is not too late to discover and to live your life's joy."
I grew up during the 50s and 60s in a rural Upstate New York county, where unless you were a brainiac or had a very modern thinking family, a girl’s future plans were fairly limited. Possible career choices were secretary, bookkeeper, teacher or nurse. But mostly the plan was a high school diploma, get married, have children, and keep a neat and orderly home.
So, I got the diploma, became a secretary, got married, had a daughter, and kept a semi-neat-and-orderly home. For 11 years, I continued to be a secretary and helped to finance my first husband’s post-navy education. Meanwhile, my dreams of a higher education were pretty much left behind.
I did try community college a couple of times, and I was actually able to complete several classes. But always ~ somehow ~ a life crisis would arise. And my education ~ or whatever personal goal I was working on ~ would be sacrificed. Maybe you have had similar experiences.
Fast-forward to the late-1990s, early 2000s. I had been married 20+ years to a second, younger husband. My daughter was grown with her own children. Professionally, I had been a Chief of Staff, a Communications Director, an Executive Director. I had taught credit-free classes at community colleges. I had moved to San Francisco and back twice. And in 2001, at 50 years old, I finally got to do the pomp and circumstance thing. I received that long-awaited bachelor degree, with my master’s level education already in the works.
Was it worth the wait and the struggles?
Absolutely!
Actually, the struggles are probably the most valuable part of my education. My life’s journey, and the inner work I did with my own Holistic Counselor, are the gems that helped me to know my truth ~ my heart ~ and to try to live each day honoring them. It is now my joy to help others to honor their truths ~ the heart of who they are. And that’s something that Jae at 18, 21, or even 30 years old, could never have imagined.
I experience joy every time I help a client to see new possibilities and witness them take their first steps toward making those possibilities a reality. Knowing that joy has been well worth the wait.
It’s not too late for you to realize your life’s joy.
